Jessi and I just finished President Uchtdorf's conference talk titled, "You Matter to Him".
One part reads, "One group of scientists estimates that the number of stars within range of our telescopes is 10 times greater than all the grains of sand on the world's beaches and deserts."
President Uchtdorf went on to say, "This conclusion has a striking similarity to the declaration of the ancient prophet Enoch[about God]: 'Were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations."
Following this quote, he mentioned one of the teachings of Book of Mormon prophet King Benjamin, "always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, and your own nothingness."
I think it is amazing that although I sit in some tiny corner of such a expansive universe, I can still feel and see evidence of God's love for me and my family. Jessi and I have been truly blessed. We see God's love for us in our supportive family and friends. We see God's love in our opportunities for education. We see God's love in our healthy minds and bodies. We see God's love for us in the most recent addition to our little family, AMAYA. We even see God's love for us in the lessons we learn from our mistakes and the adversity we face.
We are so grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It feeds us a restless hope that helps us live for the future! It also teaches us that God's love reaches everyone everywhere. We live to see those expressions of love no matter big or small.
-------------------------
For our little family night each Monday, we read a talk from the most recent conference. As you can tell from Ryan's thoughts, we read President Uchtdorf's talk.
One of my favorite lines was, "They know you could pile up the accumulated currency of the entire world and it could not buy a loaf of bread in the economy of heaven." This is used to explain that true disciples of Jesus Christ understand our place as mortals and that this time on earth is a small moment.
Considering my small amount of time, I hope to do so much.
(In the video to the left) A song I like has the words, "I want to change the world. Instead, I sleep." Unfortunately, I think many of us are just like this...especially because of time spent on things like TV, or Facebook. I fall into this category. Now that I am home so much, I have a hard time reminding myself that there are worthwhile things to be done and I should be doing them NOW; not later. President Monson once said, "You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you've collected a lot of empty yesterdays."
I feel so blessed to have tomorrows and know that with the Lord's help I can make today better if I try.
I freaking love this. You guys are so awesome. I started a new blog too. Its called A Perfect Brightness of Hope (brightnessofhope.blogspot.com) I love you guys!!!
